Pit Bulls - Rescues - Origins

Pit Bulls resulted from a cross between Bulldogs and Terriers in the 19th century. The Staffordshire Terrier was then called the Bull-and-Terrier Dog, the Half and Half or the Pit Bullterrier. Later on, in England this new breed got the name the Staffordshire Bull Terrier. This breed started the American Pit Bull Terrier and the American Staffordshire. Thus, the Pit Bull as a separate dog breed does not exist.

Pit Bulls - Rescues - Red Nose and Blue Strains

Beautiful appearance is not what Pit Bull breeders have been striving for. Originally, Pit Bulls were bred according to their working dog qualities. However, there are Pit Bull strains of peculiar colors. Since the color has never been and must not be a matter of a prior importance in Pit Bulls, these dogs are not one more Pit Bull type. Their odd-colored nose makes them stand out. However, only irresponsible breeders focused on profit claim that this is a rare breed possessing some unique features.

Breeding for an odd color inevitably leads to disregarding health and temperament in Pit Bulls. There are stable examples of Red Nose and Blue Nose Pit Bulls. Reputable breeders work hard to improve their breeding program in order to produce healthy litters. However, the Old Family Red Nose strain is a family of Pit Bulls that preserves and passes on this particular trait from generation to generation. This is not what they have been bred for though. Their outstanding ability in the pit and gameness is what the Red Nose and Blue Pit Bulls must be bred for.
