Pit Bulls are killed in animal shelters if there is no one willing to adopt them or there have been an incident of biting a dog or a person. They are euthanized because there is not enough room in shelters, or due to some viral diseases. Spaying surgery is regarded as a suitable way out in the current situation of dog overpopulation. Spaying prevents unwanted litters. Spayed/neutered animals live longer and tend to make better pets overall.
Odd as it may seem to those who believe in various myths related to this problem, Pit Bulls will benefit from being spayed/neutered. Neutered dogs are less likely to fight or roam. Spayed dogs do not get obese if you keep them as active after the procedure. It is not the spaying that makes pets overweight but overfeeding and lack of exercise. In addition, a spayed or neutered dog has less chance of developing cancer and other dangerous diseases.
More importantly, spaying means a better quality life of a pet and that it does not pass on genetic or other serious medical problems to the litter.
Pit Bulls - Rescues - Rescue Organizations
Some people prefer to deal with adult dogs. Adopting a rescue dog is definitely a challenge. You will not face the hardships of raising a puppy. However, there is much more to adopting a rescue Pit Bull than just having to adjust to a new pet. A rescue dog is always a personality with its unique background. With rescue Pit Bulls, it can be even more troublesome. However, the gratuity of your pet will have no bounds.
Breed-rescue groups may be one of the ways to a rescue Pit Bull. Such groups usually work with one dog breed only or with some related breeds. They are non-profit organizations based on the enthusiasm of a group of volunteers. They normally get their dogs from shelters and individuals and place them in volunteers' homes, which gives them an opportunity to learn a dog's personality better and get an idea of its needs.
If you have made up your mind to adopt a Pit Bull, veterinarians, shelters or reputable breeders can provide you with information about rescue groups for Pit Bulls in your area.
